Photograph & Document All of Your Work

You can now listen to the Tip-of- the-Week!
Strong images of your work are one of your most important marketing tools.
Consider the fact that 90% of your viewers may never see your art in person. Photographs of your art must be strong enough to accurately and beautifully represent you and your work.
All artists need professional quality photography to market events and to show their work to best advantage. Unprofessional photography communicates “I am still learning or not serious about being a professional artist.” If you are not skilled in photographing your work, hire someone to do so! You invest your best in your art – why not in showing it off?
You will need photos of your work for your professional portfolio, web site, postcards, invitations, catalogs, brochures, press releases, and for magazine articles and advertising. If you skimp on the photography, you may be wasting the money you spend elsewhere.
Documenting your photographs is just as important. Keep a Master File on your computer, as well as a hard copy visual record with documentation for every piece of art you have created. Store your original photographs and slides, inventory list and a backup of all your computer files in a safe, secure place (preferably off-site) where you will have them for the duration of your career.
You are planning to have a retrospective, aren’t you? Remember, "Exposure = Success."
