An Art Career is a Marathon, Not a Sprint
Artist and Educator Pat Fiorello has some sage advice for artists:
"Rather than getting whipsawed by the latest results, I find trying to keep the long term perspective helps - an art career is a marathon, not a sprint. Also if something doesn't turn out, I look to see what I could learn for next time to do differently and then get back into action.
"If you can keep that perspective plus know you are taking actions now to plant seeds for the future, then I find that eases the short term anxiety during the slow periods. Rather than dwelling in what's not happening right now, start asking yourself 'What actions can I set in motion to create opportunities for sales in the coming months?' Being in action always seems to feel better than just thinking about it, overanalyzing it (and setting off some of
those negative thoughts and assessments)."
