Deborah Webster, Layerist

While developing her body of work and looking ahead for her own art career, Deborah Webster works full out on behalf of her high school students as a full time arts teacher in upstate New York.

“One of my biggest challenges is to balance studio time with full time teaching. I joined the 12-month A.C.T. Member Program to help me organize my goals and fine-tune my presentation materials. Continuing in the Graduate Program, I have acquired professional skills that I never learned in college. The marketing portfolio enabled me to approach galleries with confidence and get shows! I was encouraged to create a website as an electronic portfolio and a follow-up source for prospective buyers with whom I have made personal contact. Besides my great success with these promotional tools, many gallery directors have commented favorably on the professional quality of the presentation.”

Her tip: “Always put your best foot forward….always double check, spell check, reread everything you send out. It represents you. Be a professional in all aspects of your career!”

Deborah’s work explores the psychological space between ideas and memory. Layering handmade papers, rich oil colors and metallic pigments, she transforms surfaces into textured stories. Deborah’s work has been exhibited in solo shows as well as in numerous juried and invitational exhibits in museums and galleries nationwide. Last year, Deborah was the subject of a documentary.
