Donald Neff, Painter
Donald Neff considers himself a re-emerging artist positioning himself for when the economy improves. Not by coincidence, he has translated the cycles of nature into the way he views his profession, measuring success by amount of exposure more than by number of purchasers. He has been accepted into several new galleries, solo shows and approached by print distributors. An art appraiser once told him to get his name out in as many places as possible in shows and galleries, and to form associations. “Artist Career Training (A.C.T.) taught me to seek out alternative venues, such as Mountain View City Hall, to capture a wider audience for my work. The bottom line is if you want to sell your work, get in front of people!”
Donald uses his web site as an online portfolio - a marketing tool rather than a direct sales vehicle. “I think it gives an artist an aura of professionalism and respectability.” In particular, his web log reveals creative and proactive approaches to developing his resume. He has a tendency to plan ahead for shows, and even develop new sizes of work for them. He engages in plein air painting during festivals, and seeks out community economic development projects to use available retail space for shows.
