Robert Spannring, Illustrator & Painter

“I refer to Artist Career Training as my “savings account”. The practical marketing strategies, tools and tips I use really bring a return on my investment. One of my goals was to enter national juried art shows. I followed the A.C.T. recommended steps by researching shows that exhibit my type of work, the deadlines, when and how to enter. The first painting was accepted and displayed in January. Hurray! The second was declined, but I know why and what to do differently!

Learn to articulate what you do, where you do it and why. Exhibit enthusiasm! I grew up in Montana, in a rail town, with old Cottonwoods along the Yellowstone River. People buy my work because of their interest in this region. They want to know that I have roots here, and am part of the place; not just someone who has moved here, has a fleeting moment, or no history here.

For wider exposure, my web site is an economical marketing tool to display my work and credentials. Look at other artist sites, call them for ideas, then save your money until you can hire a good web designer. I find the site most useful as a viewing point, not a sales storefront.
