B.J. Katz - Meldown Glass Studio

ousley04.jpg

A Graduate Member of the A.C.T. program, B.J. Katz has a multi-faceted strategy and a growing staff to market her art. To defray the overhead costs, the Meltdown Glass Studio produces "sidelines of textured art glass on an architectural scale."

"I present my artwork to as many people as possible in charge of selecting artwork for facilities, corporations and private collections. Teaching credited classes to Interior Designers adds professional credibility. I have greatly increased personal travel as a marketing tool, it’s grueling but produced commissions from all three trips this year. My web site is also very important - it provides educational opportunities I wouldn't otherwise have to show what is possible."

The more she markets, the more she reaps success. "Rejection is part of being an artist - don't take it personally or get discouraged, especially in the early stages of your art career. Keep putting yourself out there. Art being a matter of taste; there is no right or wrong. Rejection simply means that the other person has different taste, desires or experience. Remember that each 'no' is a step on the way to a 'yes.'"

A graduate of the Pilchuck Glass School (1991). B.J. Katz was encouraged by noted glass artist William Morris. She has been refining techniques and allowing cultural experiences to influence her artistic style since 1993. In Australia and New Zealand, she worked in the studios of Ann Robinson and David Wright. B.J. also studied 'Shibori,' the ancient Japanese art of tie-dying, in Japan.

B.J. Katz is represented in 15 North American galleries and has major installations of commissioned glass artwork for corporations and institutions worldwide. www.bjkatz.com or www.meltdownglass.com
